Bucks travelled to the Caroline Chisolm School in Northampton on Saturday 13th February, to play against Suffok in the quarter finals of the KO consolation cup. The match started slowly, with Paul Knight winning his first round game and David Gander just missing out by 2 shots, to an extremely proficient Caroline Harris of Suffolk. The pairing of Arnie Jaffe and Bob Hine won their game and Harley and Marlene Neems losing theirs again by just 2 shots. Unfortunately both triples lost but one of the fours skipped by Bill Faulkner won, so another 2 points in the bag. At the half way stage Bucks were 6-10 down.
In the second half, David Gander won his singles match but Paul Knight came up against Caroline Harris who was in outstanding form. Despite playing extremely well, he lost 8-23. Both pairs won their games. At this point, honours were even with 12 points each. The match started to heat up with triples winning one and losing one and one of the fours drawing. Bucks had 19 points and only needed a win in the remaining four to take the match. They dropped 5 on the penultimate end leaving them 1 shots behind going into the last end. Len Ward had the last wood and holding 1 shot had a very difficult decision to make. Take the one and draw the match, or go for the second shot and possibly lose the shot. A brave man went for the shot, touched the jack and moved it away from the shot wood. The umpire was called and everyone held their breath. The result became known when all four Bucks players punched the air at the same time. Two shots to Bucks - the game 10 - 9 and the match 21-19. Well done Bucks. We now go through to the semi final against Norfolk on Saturday 27th February. Good luck everyone.
