Match Report Northants Away 24/01/10

In the last game of the ICC round robin stages, Bucks visited Northants on 24th January. This game was originally due to be played earlier in the month but due to the adverse weather conditions, had to be re-scheduled.
Bucks got off to a shakey start with Kevin Goodman and David Gander winning their first round singles games, but both the pairs teams losing theirs despite very close games. They kept the shot difference very tight which gave some encouragement going into the second half. The triple of Liz Mills, Mike Ashdown and Peter Leslie scraped a 1 shot victory, winning 4 shots on the last end, while the other triple and both fours lost their games.
The second half looked promising with David again coming out victorious, and Kevin, despite losing his game, played a good strategic game to ensure the aggregate bonus points went to Bucks. Both pairs won their second half games to give Bucks the aggregate in that section as well. At that stage the points were even at 12 each but Bucks had 4 bonus points. We needed only 5 points from the remaining 4 games to clinch the match. Unfortunately, both triples and fours failed to win a point between them and so Northants claimed the remaining 8 points plus the 4 bonus points to come out winners. The final score was Northants 204 shots (24 points) Bucks 156 shots (16 points).
We now go through to the Consolation KO section of the competition, but get a bye in the next round through to the quarter finals. We will be playing at The Caroline Chisolm School in Northants against either Worcestershire of Suffolk. The match is scheduled for SATURDAY 13th February. Good luck Bucks.
