Widmer End made their annual pilgrimage to their “Lourdes of s.m. bowls” at Warners Bembridge Coast Hotel on the last weekend of October.

Unfortunately, Drakhenstaymark, the God of bowls was not as kind this year as previously. We probably hadn’t worshipped with conviction during the year and thus paid for our sins.

As a club we did have two finalists, in the main Fours event, and the Mixed Fours, plus a guest bowler in the final of the Triples. But unfortunately none quite managed to win. Really it was a successful weekend, and also most enjoyable, but dare I say it, we had got used to the idea that someone would win something. Nothing ever lasts!
