Match Report: Bucks v Northants – 04/10/09
The first ICC match of the season went well for Bucks when they welcomed Northants to the Polish Club in Amersham.
In the first session, the two singles players, Peter Coker and Kevin Goodman, both put up excellent scores, and the pairing of Harley and Marlene Neems, recently returned from New Zealand, won a close fought battle to win by a single shot. Bob Hine and Brian Latham played well but were out-bowled and went down 11 to 19.
The triples and fours had mixed fortunes winning one game each and losing one each. At the end of the first session Bucks were ahead with 10 points out of a possible 16.
The second half started well with two more wins in the singles, a win and draw in the pairs, and they went into the last quarter with 19 points, needing only 2 points from the remaining four games to win the match. All four games swung back and forth and at one point it looked as though Northants were going to snatch victory, but Bucks fought back hard to win by a slim margin, 23 points to 17. Total shots were Bucks 194 to Northants 168.
Well done Bucks and good luck in the next match which is against Herts, at the Polish Club on Sunday 1st November.
