Match report

On Sunday 19th February, Bucks travelled to Kempston Indoor Bowls Centre to play in the quarter finals of the ICC tournament against Kent who were winners of Group 5 but had a bye through to the quarter finals.
Unlike previous matches, the singles and pairs were not the strong openers they usually are, although Keith Patrick and Bill Faulkner did win their pairs game 15-14, scoring a valuable 2 points.
However, the triples of Howard Cave, Marlene & Harley Neems, and Jenny Burden, Jane Evans and Malcolm Tingle and the fours of Irene Roberts, Theresa Wade, Joan Northcott, and Graham Floyd, Jenny Stallard, Peter and Linda Coker, played some magnificent bowls, and won all their first round games to gain an outstanding 8 points. This gave Bucks the lead by 10 points to 6 at the end of the first session.
Unfortunately, both singles were up against some superior opposition and so again, lost both their games, but the pair of Bob Hine and Arnie Jaffe won their game 18 - 13 and a nail biting climax to the other pairs game left Keith Patrick and Bill Faulkner just 1 shot adrift at 12-13. However, this meant that the overall shots for the pairs were even and so the bonus points were shared 1 apiece.
Everything now rested on the triples and fours with the points standing at 15 - 13 in favour of Kent.
Both the triples had very close games and Bucks won one 13-9 and lost one 9-10. Fortunately, the first round scores were high enough to secure the aggregate and so the totals were now finely balanced at 17 -17.
Both fours were still playing with one side winning and the other side losing. The Bucks losing side finished first giving Kent 2 extra points and a scoreline of 19 -17. They only needed to win the final game to clinch the match.
However, Graham Floyd, Jenny Stallard, Peter & Linda Coker hung on to their lead and picked up a further 2 shots in the last end, giving them a convincing win of 8 shots to 3. This win not only secured the 2 necessary points but also gave Bucks the aggregate bonus points leading to a final score of 21 points to 19 in favour of Bucks.
This was a really exciting finish to a great days bowling and everyone, both winners and losers were congratulated for an outstanding performance.
Bucks now go through to the Semi Finals on Sunday 4th March and will play Somerset at the Caroline Chisholm School in Northampton.

WELL DONE BUCKS AND GOOD LUCK IN THE SEMI FINALS !!
