Buckinghamshire
Short Mat Bowling Association
Players began arriving at 9.15 on Saturday morning for the 4th Annual Bucks Short Mat Bowls Gala Day. Teams from around the county plus two guest teams from Northamptonshire made up the contingent of 130 players.
Bob Hine welcomed them all in his opening address, and led a round of applause in memory of Ron Warner, whose original idea gave birth to the first Gala day in 2008.
Play started promptly at 10.00 a.m. and continued throughout the day with each team of 5 (1 pair and 1 triple) playing 4 rounds.
The top four highest scoring teams played in the semi finals and these were Northampton, Coleshill, Widmer End and Holmer Green. The semi final between Widmer End and Holmer Green resulted in a draw and was decided by a one end playoff between the opposing skips.
The finalists were Coleshill and Holmer Green with Holmer Green coming out winners after a very close fought match.
They were presented with the Gala Day Trophy which captain Bobby Day dedicated to the late Ron Warner who was their former Club Captain. Coleshill were presented with the Gala Day plate.
Congratulations to both teams, and thanks to all those teams who took part.
